Juventus make shock move for Super Eagles striker after Sörloth talks collapse

Juventus have moved to Paul Onuachu after talks for Alexander Sörloth failed to reach agreement, with the Serie A club submitting an offer to Trabzonspor for the Super Eagles striker, Footynaija.com reports.

The approach came late in the window as the Italian side continued efforts to add a centre forward ahead of the second half of the season.

The Turin club had explored the Sörloth option earlier in January but discussions stalled, leading recruitment staff to review other targets already under assessment. Attention then shifted to Trabzonspor’s leading scorer, who has been a regular starter in the Turkish Super Lig this season.

Juventus officials have reportedly made contact with the Turkish club shortly after concluding that the Sörloth deal would not progress.

Trabzonspor received a proposal that was considered unusually high for a mid season move. Club president Ertuğrul Doğan is understood to have been reluctant to approve a sale, with the team involved in a domestic title challenge and limited time remaining in the market.

Onuachu has played a central role in Trabzonspor’s campaign this season. The 31-year-old has scored into double figures in league matches, with goals spread across the opening months of the season and the period following the winter break.

The striker also featured for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He was included in the Super Eagles squad and scored during the group stage, in what was his first goal at the tournament in years. Nigeria went on to finish third, and Onuachu returned to club duty after the competition.

Trabzonspor are continuing internal talks as the window enters its final phase, weighing the scale of the offer against their sporting objectives.
