Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce are reportedly edging closer to securing the transfer of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta this winter, Footynaija.com understands.

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Lookman’s future in Bergamo this January but up until now, the one-time Europa League winners have shown little willingness to part ways with their star forward in the current window.

Atalanta’s chief executive officer, Lucas Percassi, even moved to shut down the possibility of an exit for the Super Eagles star in a recent interview, insisting that the arrival of Giacomo Raspadori was not in any way, a signal of their intention to part ways with Lookman.

However, latest reports from reliable transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, indicate that the Nigeria international could well be on the move before the end of the winter transfer window with Fenerbahce looking to poach his signature.

According to Romano, the Yellow Canaries held a meeting with Atalanta today and negotiations are into the final stages with both parties coming to terms on a potential €40 million package including add-ons.

While the two clubs are on the same page as regards the transfer fee, Atalanta and Fenerbahce still need to sort out certain important details like the payment terms and bank guarantees before they can finalize the deal.

Securing Lookman’s signature this month will be a major steal for Fenerbahce, given the level of quality that the Super Eagles forward possesses.

His ability to play across the front line, create and score goals could be the last piece of the puzzle in the Yellow Canaries’ bid to reclaim the Super Lig crown from arch rivals Galatasaray.

With Lookman still attracting strong interest from Atletico Madrid, Fenerbahce will be conscious of the need to speed up the entire process in order to avoid leaving room for the La Liga outfit to hijack their deal.
