Nigeria’s Super Eagles could soon gain a new attacking option as Shola Shoretire’s impressive revival in the Netherlands fuels fresh talk about an international switch, footynaija.com reports.
The 21-year-old, currently on loan at PEC Zwolle from Greek champions PAOK, caught the eye at the weekend by scoring twice against AZ Alkmaar.

That performance took his tally to four goals in 16 league games and earned him the Eredivisie’s player of the week award. It is a timely reminder of the promise that once made Shoretire one of Manchester United’s brightest academy prospects.
Shoretire’s form has also reopened the long-running conversation about his international future.
Although he represented England at several youth levels, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria through his father, and those close to him suggest the Super Eagles remain his top preference.

“It’s no secret that Shoretire wants to play for Nigeria. That has been said since three years ago and it’s still the same till date. He is hoping the selectors will look his way if he continues to progress as expected,” a representative of his agency revealed in an exclusive chat with OGN.
Born in February 2004, Shoretire made history at Old Trafford by becoming Manchester United’s youngest-ever player in European competition and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2020–21.

Despite those early milestones, first-team opportunities proved limited. A loan spell at Bolton Wanderers offered his first taste of regular senior football before his United contract expired, leading to a move to PAOK and, more recently, to Zwolle.
Now playing with confidence again as an attacking midfielder or winger, Shoretire appears to be rebuilding his career step by step.
His upturn in form comes at an interesting moment for Nigeria, as the Super Eagles continue to widen their search for creative, versatile attackers in Europe.
