Victor Osimhen’s future has once again become a hot topic in European football, with two African greats offering sharply different views on where the Nigerian striker should play next, footynaija.com reports.
Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has revealed Osimhen would be a great signing for Manchester while former Nigeria international John Obi Mikel has urged Chelsea to move for the Super Eagles striker.
Gyan named Osimhen as his favourite striker in modern football and says he would love to see the Galatasaray forward at Manchester United.
Speaking in an interview with Rio Ferdinand, Gyan praised Osimhen’s energy, hunger and mentality.
“Victor Osimhen, He loves scoring goals, and he plays with the heart, you know, gives everything,” Gyan said, before admitting his surprise that Europe’s biggest clubs did not move for him recently.
“I like those kinds of strikers, and I’m surprised the big clubs didn’t come for him this transfer window. But hopefully I’m feeling for Manchester United too. If only he wanted to come because of their history and everything. If only he wants to come.”
However, former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel believes Chelsea should be the club to act.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he described Osimhen as a complete striker who offers pace, movement, goals and experience.
“Victor Osimhen. He can stretch the play, he can run behind, he can come short, he can score goals, he can do everything,” Mikel noted.
“You need that experienced striker who’s been there, done it, knows how to win big games, knows how to score in big games, knows how to be in the right place at the right time.”
Now 27, Osimhen has scored 12 goals in 16 games this season and remains Nigeria’s main attacking weapon. He will next feature in the AFCON third-place playoff against Egypt in Casablanca, with Europe’s elite watching closely.
