The longest-serving coach in the history of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr is facing renewed scrutiny, footynaija.com reports.
This comes after a disturbing allegation linked to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations resurfaced in the public domain.
The 72-year-old German is the subject of claims published by French journalist and influencer Romain Molina concerning an incident that allegedly took place during the 2017 tournament in Gabon, when Rohr was working as a pundit for beIN Sports.
Rohr, who recently exited the 2025 AFCON with Benin Republic, was head coach of the Super Eagles at the time. Nigeria, though, did not qualify for the 2017 AFCON.

According to Molina, while working as a pundit, Rohr was staying in an accommodation run by a priest who reported seeing the coach “wearing only white briefs’ and bringing “two very young girls” into his room. Molina claims the matter was reported internally and that beIN Sports confronted Rohr, whose explanations allegedly changed several times.
He further claims the broadcaster withdrew Rohr’s accreditation and ended his involvement in the tournament, though no legal action was taken and the story was never made public.

Rohr has not commented publicly on the allegation, and there has been no statement from beIN Sports.
Rohr is one of the most recognisable European coaches in African football, having managed Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Benin. He led Nigeria to qualification for the 2018 World Cup and to third place at the 2019 AFCON, remaining in charge from 2016 to 2021, the longest reign in Super Eagles history.
The claims remain unproven, but their re-emergence now casts a shadow over Rohr’s long and influential career on the continent.
