Nigeria powered into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fez, footynaija.com reports.

Victor Osimhen bagged a brace, his first at the AFCON, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams added further strikes to inspire another dominant Super Eagles display.

After an early goal was ruled out for offside, Nigeria quickly settled and began to dictate proceedings. Lookman was a constant threat down the left, while Alex Iwobi pulled the strings in midfield.

The breakthrough arrived in the 20th minute when Iwobi’s incisive through-ball released Akor Adams, who squared unselfishly for Lookman to finish calmly. Six minutes later, the lead was doubled as Lookman’s cross deflected into Osimhen’s path for a close-range finish.

Nigeria could have added more before half-time but went into the break firmly in control.

Three minutes after the restart, Osimhen struck again. Once more, Lookman was the provider, squaring for the Napoli striker to score his 34th international goal and move within three of Rashidi Yekini’s record.

Nigeria continued to dominate, with Bright Osayi-Samuel and Wilfred Ndidi both going close, before Akor Adams capped the performance in the 76th minute with a well-taken goal from another Lookman assist.

The win makes Nigeria the first team at AFCON 2025 to score four goals in a match and the first Nigerian side to win their opening four games at the tournament. The Super Eagles now await the winner of Algeria versus DR Congo in the quarter-finals.
