Aliyu Zubairu, head coach of Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, has left his role to take up a new managerial position in Egypt, Footynaija.com reports.
According to reports, Zubairu has been appointed manager of Telecom Egypt SC, a club in Egypt’s Second Division League.
The 44-year-old tactician was unveiled in Cairo, where he signed a two-year deal with the ambitious side.

Telecom Egypt’s management described his appointment as part of their long-term strategy to secure promotion to the Egyptian Premier League by bringing in seasoned African coaches with proven track records.
Zubairu’s rise has been steady and impressive.
He led Nigeria’s Flying Eagles to the Round of 16 at this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, where they were eliminated by Argentina, and earlier guided the team to a bronze medal at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt.

Before his time with the national team, Zubairu built a strong reputation at club level. He earned promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League with both Gombe United in 2021 and El-Kanemi Warriors in 2024, while also steering El-Kanemi to victory in the President Federation Cup that same year.
His earlier success as an assistant coach at Akwa United added to his domestic credentials.
Zubairu now joins an elite group of Nigerian managers who have taken their expertise abroad: a list that includes Ndubuisi Egbo, Sunday Oliseh, Emmanuel Amuneke, Stephen Keshi, Christian Chukwu, and Samson Siasia.
