Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi expressed understandable disappointment following Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in Saturday’s Premier League clash at St. James’ Park, Footynaija.com reports.
Iwobi would’ve been hoping to mark his 300th Premier League appearance with a win but it wasn’t to be as Bruno Guimaraes grabbed a late winner for the hosts after Sasa Lukic had initially cancelled out Jacob Murphy’s opener for the Magpies.
Fulham gave a pretty good account of themselves on enemy territory but two separate mix ups at the back saw the Cottagers punished by their ruthless hosts on both occasions.

Reflecting on the game, Iwobi rued those defensive errors as well Fulham’s inability to make more of their own opportunities in the final third: “Of course, we’re very disappointed,” he said in quotes revealed by Fulham’s official website.
“We knew it was going to be a hard game and a tough place to come to, but if we don’t win, then we shouldn’t lose, and maintain the draw.
“Unfortunately, a last-minute winner is a dagger in the heart, but we have to pick ourselves up and go into next week’s game.
“Going into the second half, we had the bigger spark. Obviously, there were a lot of changes; there was a lot more dynamism going on down the flanks.

“So, we were able to hurt them and create a few chances, but if we don’t take our chances, good teams like Newcastle can punish us.
“We were able to create chances against a great Newcastle side. We limited their chances as well, even though a couple of mistakes punished us.
“As long as we stay consistent, give 100% and stay focused until 90-plus minutes, I’m sure we can get the results that we need to.”

Iwobi’s Fulham have now suffered four straight defeats in the Premier League this term with this latest defeat leaving them rooted to 16th place and dangerously close to the relegation zone.
