William Idemudia Osula grabbed the spotlight on August 25, 2025, when he struck an 88th-minute equaliser for Newcastle United against Liverpool in the Premier League, Footynaija.com reports.

The goal, his first of the new season, showed his sharp instincts and gave the home fans a glimpse of his growing influence in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Although Rio Ngumoha, another Nigerian-eligible youngster, stole the headlines with a stoppage-time winner for the Reds, Osula’s composed finish showed he’s someone you should already know.

Background and Early Life

Osula was born on 4 August 2003 in Aarhus, Denmark. His family background is a mix of two different cultures: a Danish mother and a Nigerian father. It is from his father that he carries the middle name Idemudia, a name rooted in Nigerian identity and heritage.

That dual lineage has has also framed his footballing future with multiple international pathways. Eligible to play for both Denmark and Nigeria, Osula has so far represented Denmark at youth level, but his Nigerian descent ensures that the Super Eagles remain a viable option should he decide to switch.

Club Career Journey

Osula’s football story started in the youth ranks of FC Copenhagen, where his raw pace and athletic frame stood out even as a teenager. His potential caught the eye of English scouts, and in 2018 he joined Sheffield United’s academy, a move that gave him the platform to refine his finishing and physical hold-up play against tougher opposition.

The breakthrough came during a loan spell at Derby County in the 2022–23 season, where he picked up valuable Championship experience. His most memorable displays were marked by powerful runs and instinctive goals, showing he could handle the intensity of senior football.

Returning to Sheffield United, he tasted the spotlight in the FA Cup, where he registered his first senior goals and staked a claim as one of the club’s brightest prospects, by scoring a brace for Sheffield United in a 4–0 victory over Gillingham.

By the summer of 2024, Osula made the leap to Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe keen to add depth and youth to his attacking options. At St James’ Park, the Nigerian-eligible forward has grown in confidence, often used as an impact substitute.

On January 12, 2025, he netted his first goal for the club during their 3–1 FA Cup third-round victory over Bromley. He later opened his Premier League account on April 26, 2025, scoring with a header from a Kieran Trippier corner in a 3–0 win against Ipswich Town.

As of August 2025, Osula has already established his name in Newcastle’s highlight reel: none more so than the 88th-minute equaliser against Liverpool on 25 August 2025, a goal that revealed his sharp instincts and composure under pressure.

International Career and Eligibility

Osula’s international path has so far been tied to Denmark, where he has represented the country at both U19 and U21 level. Across those youth categories, he has amassed 15 caps and scored 8 goals. His pace and physical edge have made him an effective weapon for Denmark’s junior sides, often deployed as the leading striker in quick, direct transitions.

However, the door remains open for a different chapter. Osula is still eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level, through his father. With the Super Eagles in the midst of a generational shift under Eric Chelle, his name regularly features in fan discussions about possible call-ups.

Nigeria’s coaching staff are aware of his progress at Newcastle, and his dual heritage means the decision on where his senior international future lies could be one of the defining calls of his career.

Connection to Nigerian Roots

In May 2025, Osula offered a glimpse of his roots in a way that instantly caught fire online. A TikTok video of him introducing Newcastle teammates Alexander Isak and Joe Willock to Nigerian fufu and a bottle of Fanta, soundtracked by 9ice’s “Gongo Aso,” racked up hundreds of thousands of views within days.

That cultural embrace has not gone unnoticed back home. Nigerian football circles quickly picked up the video, with fans interpreting it as more than a joke. It felt like a subtle nod towards his connection to the Super Eagles.
