Swansea City have moved ahead of Wrexham in the race to sign Montreal striker Sunusi Ibrahim, with the Nigerian keen on a switch to the Championship before Monday’s transfer deadline, Footynaija.com reports.

Ibrahim, 22, has been frozen out at the MLS side, making just nine substitute appearances this season and totalling 56 minutes of league football. With Montreal reportedly ready to let him leave for a nominal fee, the Super Eagles forward is eager for a fresh start in England.

Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan has been reshaping his squad since taking charge permanently earlier this summer, and a striker remains on his wish list. The Swans currently rely on Zan Vipotnik and Liam Cullen, alongside new signing Bobby Wales, but want greater depth in attack. Ibrahim, known for his pace and tenacity, would provide a different dimension.

Wrexham, meanwhile, have also expressed interest, though their striking department looks well stocked following the arrivals of Kieffer Moore and Ryan Hardie, alongside Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and experienced options Jay Rodriguez and Ollie Palmer. That leaves Swansea in pole position to secure Ibrahim’s signature.

The Nigerian began his professional career with Nasarawa United, winning the NPFL top scorer award in 2019 before moving to Montreal in 2021. Ibrahim, who has three caps for Nigeria, has since played over 100 times for the Canadian club, registering 20 goals.

Ibrahim’s future is expected to be resolved quickly, with Swansea now favourites to land him before the transfer window shuts.
