The 13th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations came with a financial upgrade, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) raised the tournament’s prize pool to $3,475,000, a 45 percent increase from the previous edition held in 2022, Footynaija.com reports.

The biggest winners, both on the pitch and in the bank, are Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who pulled off a stunning 3–2 comeback win over Morocco on Saturday night in Rabat. Their historic triumph sealed a record tenth WAFCON title, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.

Nigeria’s victory was sealed late on, after goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini overturned an early two-goal deficit. The win capped off an unbeaten tournament under coach Justin Madugu.

Morocco, who finished runners-up on home soil, and Ghana, who shocked defending champions South Africa to grab third place, also left their mark on the tournament. But their rewards differ sharply from Nigeria’s windfall.

As revealed by CAF Online, Nigeria will earn $1 million (around ₦1.5 billion) in prize money for winning the tournament — the largest payout ever made to a WAFCON champion. Morocco, the beaten finalists, will receive $500,000, while Ghana’s Black Queens have been awarded $350,000 for securing third place.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who came fourth after losing in the third-place match, will earn $300,000, completing the top-four reward bracket.

CAF’s payout structure also ensured that the rest of the field did not go home empty-handed. The four teams eliminated in the quarterfinals received $200,000 each, while teams that finished third in their groups were awarded $150,000. Even the fourth-placed group teams earned $125,000 apiece.
