Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has insisted that reclaiming the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title is the only thing on the minds of Nigeria’s squad ahead of Saturday’s final against hosts Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.

Nigeria, nine-time continental champions, booked their place in the final with a dramatic 2-1 win over holders South Africa in Casablanca.

The decisive moment came from an audacious cross-shot by Michelle Alozie deep into stoppage time – a goal that broke Banyana Banyana hearts and sent the Falcons into their 11th WAFCON final.

Hosts Morocco awaits in the final in Rabat, and Madugu insists the Super Falcons are ready to reclaim the crown they lost to South Africa three years ago.

“We thank God for making it to the final,” Madugu said, as the team departed Casablanca for the Moroccan capital. “I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball. Our focus is on lifting the trophy in Rabat on Saturday.”

Reflecting on their gritty semi-final performance, Madugu added:

“We knew South Africa, as Cup holders, would be difficult but we were ready for them. I am glad that our tactics paid off. As I said before the tournament, we will always assess the opposition first and then determine what tactics would suit us better and serve our purpose.”

Nigeria have looked strong throughout the competition, scoring 11 goals and conceding just once – a penalty from Linda Motlhalo in the semi-final.

Key players like Rasheedat Ajibade, Folasade Ijamilusi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Esther Okoronkwo, Ashleigh Plumptre and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie have all played starring roles.

Morocco, meanwhile, have grown rapidly in stature and now stand one win away from rewriting the continent’s football hierarchy. But Nigeria, with their eyes firmly on the prize, will take some stopping.
