Former Liverpool forward El Hadji Diouf has called on the club to make a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, claiming the Napoli star would be a perfect fit at Anfield, Footynaija.com reports.

Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, scored a staggering 37 goals in 41 appearances and is reportedly being considered by Liverpool as a possible replacement for Darwin Núñez, should the Uruguayan complete a move to Napoli.

Though no formal offer has been made, Diouf believes Osimhen would thrive alongside Mohamed Salah.

“I think it would be the best choice for him from a sporting perspective. Liverpool will be competing in the Champions League,” Diouf told AfricaFoot.

“Their plan has been clear for years. They’re a very big club, perfectly structured, with significant resources. At Liverpool, Osimhen could take on a huge sporting challenge and earn a very good living.

“I’m convinced it could work, that these two players (Osimhen and Salah) could complement each other. I’d like to see this duo come together.”

Salah ended last season as the Premier League’s top scorer, playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title win. Osimhen, meanwhile, was top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig and remains one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.

“I remember the Mo Salah-Sadio Mane partnership, which worked very well. I think the Salah-Osimhen duo could do just as well!” Diouf added.

Liverpool have already spent over £200m this summer on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili, but sources suggest the club could yet move for another striker.

Osimhen came close to joining Chelsea last summer and is believed to be open to a Premier League move, regardless of the club.
