Faustino Anjorin is set to become the latest England-born talent to commit his international future to Nigeria, following a productive meeting with Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, Footynaija.com reports.

The 23-year-old, currently on the books of Serie B side Empoli, was born in Poole, England, to a Nigerian father and English mother. He has long been eligible for a one-time switch under FIFA rules.

Although he previously represented England at youth level, Anjorin never made a senior appearance for the Three Lions, leaving the door open for a change of national team.

The Chelsea academy graduate spent over a decade with the London club, rising through the ranks before making his senior debut under Frank Lampard in 2019. He was also part of the Blues’ 2020–21 Champions League-winning squad.

His talent is never in doubt. A powerful attacking midfielder, Anjorin has always drawn attention for his physicality, ball-carrying ability, and final-third creativity.

After battling a series of injuries during previous loan spells at Lokomotiv Moscow and Huddersfield Town, Anjorin finally found stability with Empoli in Italy. The 2024–25 season saw him regain match sharpness and deliver some strong performances in Serie A, prompting fresh interest from Nigeria’s national team setup.

As revealed in a report by Daily Post, Anjorin recently held a one-on-one meeting with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. The report described the conversation a “fruitful”, and Anjorin is said to now be willing to switch allegiance.

If all goes through, Anjorin could soon join a growing list of players who previously represented England at youth level but now wear the green and white of Nigeria.
