Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo has completed a move to Romanian side CFR Cluj, joining the Liga I outfit on a free transfer following his recent exit from Turkish club Kasimpasa, Footynaija.com reports.

The 31-year-old centre-back, capped 69 times by Nigeria, has inked the dotted lines as Cluj’s seventh signing of the summer, as per Gsp. Omeruo has been training with the club since TuesFootynaija.comday and put pen to paper after agreeing terms with Dan Petrescu’s team.

His arrival was first announced by high-profile football agent Anamaria Prodan, who shared a photo of the player alongside CFR Cluj president Cristi Balaj, even before the club confirmed the deal.

Omeruo, who stands at 1.85m, will compete for a starting berth against the likes of Matei Ilie, Leo Bolgdao, Daniel Dumbravanu, and Sheriff Sinyan as Cluj bolster their defensive options for the new campaign.

The former Chelsea man began his European career at Standard Liège before sealing a move to Stamford Bridge in 2012. Though he never played for the Blues, he enjoyed loan spells at ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, and Alanyaspor, before being sold to Leganés in 2019 for €5m.

Omeruo played 51 matches in La Liga and featured 36 times for Middlesbrough. He returned to Kasimpasa in 2023 but saw his contract terminated this summer.

A key part of Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, Omeruo has not been called up by new Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle since the coach’s appointment.
