Aarhus Fremad defender Segun Olalere has described his club’s recent promotion to the Danish First Division as the highlight of his time in Denmark, following a triumphant campaign in the second division.

“It was a great season for me, the best since I came to Denmark,” the 25-year-old Nigerian defender told FootyNaija.com. Olalere played a key role in the team’s success despite a challenging year punctuated by injuries. “Even though I have had injuries, it hasn’t been easy,” he admitted. “I am happy to have been promoted with the team. It has been one of my greatest achievements.”

Aarhus Fremad, who narrowly missed out on promotion last season, approached the 2024/25 campaign with renewed focus and unity. “It was difficult having missed out on promotion last season,” Olalere reflected. “We trained harder this season, we spoke to each other more. We fought for each other on and off the pitch, we took every game as the final match. We tried to stick with each other.”

Nigerian footballer Segun Olalere of Danish club Aarhus Fremad holds the Second Division trophy that his club won at the end of the 2024/25 Danish football season.

That solidarity has now paid off, as the club prepares for the challenges of the Danish First Division. Looking ahead, Olalere remains optimistic but grounded. “We are aiming for the Super League, but one step at a time,” he said.

The defender also confirmed he will be staying with the club after signing a two-year contract extension. “I am staying at Aarhus Fremad and see how far we can go next season,” he affirmed. “I signed two more years with the club and we will play in the First Division together.”

Aarhus Fremad is majority-owned by Nigerian tech entrepreneur Shola Akinlade, the co-founder of payments platform Paystack.
