Former Nigeria U20 forward Joy Omewa has been named the 2024–25 Danish Women’s League Player of the Year following a spectacular campaign with Fortuna Hjørring, Footynaija.com reports.

Omewa, 22, delivered a stunning return of 25 goals and six assists in 27 appearances, playing a crucial role as Fortuna Hjørring secured both the league title and the Danish Women’s Cup to complete a memorable domestic double.

The award, presented by the Danish Players’ Association in partnership with Hessel HiRE, was decided by a vote among 123 players from across the league. Omewa received an emphatic 45% of the vote, ahead of AGF’s Signe Baattrup (20%) and HB Køge’s Olivia Garcia (16%).

Reacting to the honour, Omewa said: “Last season wasn’t great for us, so we made a promise to do better. I’m really happy we won the Double. I’m the league’s top scorer and now Player of the Year — this is huge.”

She added: “I’m especially proud the award came from the players. I’ve worked really hard for this, and I’m grateful.”

When asked about her season highlight, Omewa pointed to the first-round win over FC Nordsjælland: “I scored and made an assist. That game set the tone for everything that followed.”

Omewa will look forward to being a part of the Super Falcons squad preparing to challenge for glory at next month’s Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
