Biography

Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo, widely known as Simy, was born on May 7, 1992, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He began his football career in Nigeria before moving to Portugal at a young age, where he signed for Portimonense in 2011.

Simy spent two years with Portimonense in Portugal’s Segunda Liga before making a switch to Gil Vicente in 2013. His performances earned him a move to Italy in 2016 when he signed for Crotone, a club then newly promoted to Serie A.

The Nigerian striker gained attention during his time at Crotone, especially in the 2020–21 Serie A season where he scored an impressive 20 goals, finishing as one of the league’s top scorers, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Dusan Vlahovic and Luis Muriel.

Following Crotone’s relegation, Simy moved to Salernitana, initially on loan in 2021, and later made the move permanent. While his form dipped with limited playing time, he remains a respected presence in Serie B.

On the international stage, Simy earned his first call-up to the Nigeria national team in 2018 and was part of the Super Eagles squad at the FIFA World Cup in Russia. He made a substitute appearance in Nigeria’s group stage win over Iceland.
