Newcastle United are in advanced discussions to sign Nigerian forward Victor Boniface from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, Footynaija.com understands.

According to reports from Germany, the Magpies have stepped up their efforts to bring the 24-year-old to St. James’ Park this summer, with Eddie Howe keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Boniface has enjoyed an encouraging season in Germany, registering 11 goals and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. The powerful striker has been an influential presence for Xabi Alonso’s side, helping them secure their first-ever Bundesliga title last year.

Standing at 1.90m, Boniface is a physical and aerial threat in the final third. He averages 2.7 shots, 0.5 key passes, and 0.8 successful dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, his passing accuracy — at 71.5% — suggests there is still room for improvement in his link-up play.

Despite those shortcomings, his ability to create chances and convert opportunities has not gone unnoticed. With his contract at Leverkusen running until 2028, Newcastle would need to table a significant offer to tempt the German club into selling.

While questions remain over how quickly Boniface could adapt to the intensity of the Premier League, his age, physicality, and scoring instinct make him a promising long-term prospect for Howe’s side.

Should a deal go through, Boniface would add depth and power to Newcastle’s forward line as they prepare for a demanding campaign both domestically and in Europe.
