Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are into the quarter-finals of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and face a huge test against defending champions Senegal, Footynaija.com reports.
After finishing second in Group B with five points from three matches, Nigeria now need their top performers to step up at a higher level. Senegal, who squeezed through Group C on goal difference, remain dangerous with solid defenders, clever midfielders, and pace up front.
As Nigeria prepare for this knockout tie, here are three Flying Eagles who must deliver if the team wants to reach the semi-finals.
1. Kparobo Arierhi – Forward

Kparobo Arierhi has shown promise during the group stage, especially with his goal against Kenya. The forward is lively around the box and constantly looks for gaps in the opponent’s defence.
Against a strong Senegalese backline, Nigeria will need Arierhi’s sharpness, good movement, and finishing instincts.
With Senegal known for sitting deep and waiting to counter, Arierhi will have fewer chances. That makes it even more important for him to take any opportunity that comes his way. If he finds space and gets service from the wings or midfield, he could be Nigeria’s best hope for goals.
2. Daniel Bameyi – Defender & Captain

Captain Daniel Bameyi has been the voice and rock of the team. His calm penalty against Kenya showed his composure, and his leadership has held the backline together during tense moments. But now comes a tougher test.
Senegal will look to exploit any gaps with players like Clayton Silverio Diandy and Ibrahima Dieng pushing forward. Bameyi must be alert, well-positioned, and ready to communicate constantly with his teammates. He has the experience and maturity to deal with big games. Nigeria need him at his best to shut out a fast and clever Senegalese attack.
1. Ifeanyi Harcourt – Goalkeeper

So far, Ifeanyi Harcourt has made smart saves and stayed focused, especially in the tight 0–0 draw against Morocco. But against Senegal, his role will grow even more important. The Young Lions of Teranga will test him from set-pieces, through balls, and long-range efforts.
Harcourt must stay confident, command his area, and make good decisions quickly. His ability to organise defenders and deal with pressure will likely be a deciding factor. In matches like this, one save can make all the difference. Nigeria need him to rise to the occasion and give the team a solid base at the back.
Nigeria have what it takes to beat Senegal, but their top names must perform when it matters most. If Arierhi, Bameyi, and Harcourt step up, the Flying Eagles can take a big step toward lifting their eighth U-20 AFCON title.
