Kaizer Chiefs have identified Nigerian winger Kingsley Michael as a potential addition to their squad as they continue their ambitious off-season rebuild, Footynaija.com reports.

Currently plying his trade in Tunisia with US Monastir, the 25-year-old former Bologna midfielder has emerged as a serious target for the Soweto giants, who are casting a wider net across Africa in search of fresh talent. With a significantly increased transfer budget, Chiefs are keen to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

“He is currently playing in Tunisia and there are scouts who have been monitoring him there,” a source revealed to TheSouthAfrican. “He has been doing very well. That’s why he is back on Chiefs’ radar. They haven’t finalised the shopping list for next season, but Kingsley Michael is one of those they are considering.”

Michael, who began his professional career in Italy, boasts solid European experience. After signing with Bologna in 2017, he featured in Serie A and Serie B, enjoying loan spells at Perugia, Cremonese, Reggina, and Austrian side SV Ried. Injuries curtailed his progress, but he has recently returned to action for US Monastir, featuring in six matches this season.

His international résumé includes representing Nigeria at the U-17 World Cup in 2015, where he scored in a 3–0 win over Brazil en route to Nigeria’s title win. He made his senior Super Eagles debut in September 2021, playing the full 90 minutes in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde. It remains his only cap for the three-time African champions.

With head coach Nasreddine Nabi well-connected in Tunisian football, Chiefs may have an advantage in securing the winger’s services. However, with Michael under contract until June 2026, a significant transfer fee may be required to complete the deal.

The move, if completed, would underline Kaizer Chiefs’ intent to compete at the highest level once more.
