Alex Iwobi, a professional footballer currently plying his trade in the Premier League with Fulham and proudly representing the Super Eagles, has certainly made a name for himself as one of Nigeria’s brightest talents in Europe.

Following in the footsteps of his uncle, the mercurial Austine “Jhay Jhay” Okocha, Iwobi has enjoyed a steady rise in the game and is now one of the most important players for his club as well as the Nigeria national team.

Biography

Iwobi was born on May 3, 1996 in Lagos, Nigeria and after a short stay in Turkey, moved to England at the age of four, where he was raised in Newham, London.

Alex Iwobi began his football journey in Arsenal’s youth system in 2004 and made his senior debut in 2015. He won the FA Cup in 2016/17 and the Community Shield in 2017, and scored in the 2019 Europa League Final before leaving for Everton.

He joined Everton in 2019 for an initial £28 million, earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Season award in 2022/2023 after registering eight assists.

In September 2023, Iwobi signed for Fulham, where he quickly made an impact and has gone on to establish himself as a vital player, especially this season. On 6 April 2024, he became the Nigerian with the most minutes played in Premier League history.

On the international scene, he played for England’s youth teams before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2015. He played a key role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup and featured in all group matches. He also represented the Super Eagles at the 2019, 2021 (held in 2022), and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, helping the team finish as runners-up in 2023.

At the time of writing, Iwobi has racked up a total of 431 appearances for club and country. Wherever he’s played, the Super Eagles star has displayed an innate ability to function as the creative spark of his team. Interestingly, the 28-year-old has also developed an eye for goal over the course of his hugely successful career. Below is a breakdown of his numbers.

Alex Iwobi’s Salary

Iwobi, who signed until June 2027 with Fulham, earns approximately £83,000 per week according to Capology. His weekly wages sum up to £332,000 monthly.

This amounts to an annual salary of £4.3 million, and by the end of his deal in June 2027, he is set to earn a total of £17.2 million.

Alex Iwobi’s Net Worth and Market Value

According to Salary Sport, Iwobi’s net worth is estimated at £35 million, reflecting his earnings from lucrative deals with Arsenal, Everton and Fulham as well as brand endorsements.

His current market value stands at €25 million, according to TransferMarkt, €7 million less than his peak value of €32 million.

Iwobi’s father Chuka Iwobi was also a footballer but he never went pro while the only publicly available information about his mother is that she’s the sister of legendary Nigerian footballer “Jhay Jhay” Okocha.

 Iwobi has been in a relationship with British model Ellie Mae for over three years, reportedly starting shortly after his move to Everton. Prior to this, he was in a four-year relationship with Clarisse Juliette, which ended amid allegations of infidelity. Since then, Iwobi has found renewed stability in his personal life with Ellie, who is also a co-owner of the digital marketing firm ZOir, based in Cheshire, Manchester.
