Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance to inspire Fulham to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool at Craven Cottage on Sunday — a result that saw Arne Slot’s side make unwanted history, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigeria international was instrumental in Fulham’s spirited comeback, scoring one and assisting another as the West London side produced a sensational first-half display to stun the title favourites.

After Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, Liverpool had the chance to open up a commanding 14-point lead at the summit. They began in familiar fashion, taking the lead through Alexis Mac Allister’s sublime strike in the 14th minute.

But Fulham responded with an attacking blitz that turned the contest on its head.

Ryan Sessegnon drew the hosts level in the 23rd minute before Iwobi pounced on a misplaced pass from Andy Robertson to fire Fulham ahead with a deflected left-footed effort in the 32nd minute.

The Super Eagles midfielder wasn’t done. Just five minutes later, Iwobi turned provider, slipping a clever pass to Rodrigo Muniz, who brilliantly outfoxed Virgil van Dijk before finishing past Caoimhín Kelleher.

Incredibly, all three Fulham goals came within a devastating 14-minute spell in the first half — a passage of play that etched an unwanted milestone in Liverpool’s history books.

According to Opta, it was the first time in Premier League history that Liverpool conceded three first-half goals after scoring first in a match. It was also the first time they had shipped three goals before half-time since their 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa in October 2020.

Luis Díaz pulled one back for the visitors after coming off the bench in the second half, but Fulham held firm to secure a memorable win and move up to eighth in the table with 48 points.

Iwobi’s performance underlined his growing influence for Marco Silva’s side. The 27-year-old has now scored eight goals and provided five assists in 31 league appearances this season — but this was the first time he has both scored and assisted in the same Premier League game this campaign.

Across his Premier League career with Arsenal, Everton and Fulham, Iwobi has now amassed 30 goals and 33 assists in 284 appearances.
