Leeds United are exploring a move for FC Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi as they prepare for potential reinforcements this summer, Footynaija.com understands.

The Whites are in a tight battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League, currently sitting second in the Championship alongside Sheffield United and Burnley.

Manager Daniel Farke is keen to bolster his squad should they progress to the top division and Sanusi has emerged as a possible addition to their defensive ranks, according to Sport Witness.

Sanusi, 27, has struggled for game time at Porto this season, making just six appearances in all competitions — three of them in the league. Despite being under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2027, a summer move could be on the cards, with Leeds monitoring his situation closely.

With Junior Firpo’s contract set to expire in June and no extension agreed, Leeds could turn to Sanusi as a replacement.

The club also have Sam Byram and youngster Isaac Schmidt as alternatives at left-back, but Farke may see Sanusi’s experience and international pedigree as a key asset.

Sanusi’s journey to professional football started with Nigeria’s Jega United before moving to Portugal as a teenager. After a loan spell at Mirandela, he earned a permanent move and later joined Santa Clara in the Primeira Liga. Porto snapped him up in 2020, and he has since made 128 appearances, scoring seven goals.

The Nigeria international has earned 22 caps since making his Super Eagles debut in 2020.
