Osinachi Ohale has returned to Italian football with Como 1907 after leaving Mexican side Pachuca, beginning a new chapter at club level just weeks after ending her 16-year career with the Super Falcons, Footynaija.com reports.
The 34-year-old defender announced her retirement from international football in September, bringing an end to a Nigeria career that included 86 appearances, four FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments and five Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles.
Ohale was part of the Super Falcons teams that won the continental crown in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2025, when Nigeria reclaimed the title in Morocco. She also featured at the 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 Women’s World Cups.
Her final years with Nigeria included the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where she scored against hosts Australia in a 3-2 group-stage win. The Super Falcons reached the round of 16 before losing to England on penalties.
Ohale begins another spell in Italy
Como 1907 confirms Ohale joins the club during the summer transfer window after her time with Pachuca in Mexico. The move brings her back to Italy, where she previously played for Roma in 2020.
Her club career has taken her across Nigeria, the United States, Sweden, Spain and Mexico since she began playing professionally in 2008. She played for Rivers Angels and Delta Queens in Nigeria before joining Houston Dash in the United States, then moved to Sweden and Spain before her first Italian spell.
Como’s technical director Nils Nielsen said the club valued the experience Ohale would bring to its defence.
“Osinachi is a very experienced and good defender,” Nielsen said, pointing to her positioning, one-on-one marking and aerial ability as qualities that could help the team.
Ohale represented Nigeria for more than 15 years, including times she served as captain. She said she was pleased to return to Italy and ready to adapt to the demands of her new team.
“I’m happy to return to Italy and embark on this new experience here in Como; I have a very positive feeling about it,” she said. “I’m ready to do whatever the coach asks of me to help the team.”
Her international retirement closes one chapter of a long career with Nigeria, but the Como move means she will continue playing at club level, bringing her experience from African and international competitions to a new dressing room in Italy.
