Samuel Chukwueze’s future at AC Milan appears to have taken a major turn after a difficult spell that once left his position at the club uncertain, Footynaija reports.
The Nigeria winger is now being viewed as an important part of Rúben Amorim’s plans, with reports suggesting Milan could eventually look at extending his contract.
Chukwueze does not need a new deal immediately. His current contract runs until June 30, 2028. But the change in the club’s attitude is significant after months of uncertainty.
The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League, where he scored three goals and provided four assists. Fulham had an option to sign him permanently for about €26m but decided against the move.
That decision sent Chukwueze back to Milan, where his future was again questioned during the summer transfer window.
Trabzonspor were among the clubs linked with him, with reports of a bid worth about €15m. There were also suggestions that Besiktas were interested.
Amorim’s arrival has changed the situation. The Portuguese manager wants Milan to play with speed and direct attacking football, a style that suits Chukwueze’s ability to run at defenders from the right side. Milan sporting director Geoffrey Moncada has also played down suggestions that the winger is on his way out.
Chukwueze has responded well on the pitch. He has played every minute of Milan’s opening two Serie A matches this season and created an assist in the 2-1 win against Torino. He also completed the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory over Venezia.
His early performances have included six chances created and an 83.5% passing accuracy, while his average match rating has been above 7.5.
For now, there is no confirmed new contract. His reported gross salary is around €5.13m per season.
But if Chukwueze continues to perform well, Milan could have a much bigger decision to make later in the season: whether to keep their new attacking weapon beyond his current contract.
