Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will begin their campaign at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship against Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic after being drawn in Group B, Footynaija reports.
The draw took place on Thursday at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, where the tournament will be played from 4 to 17 October.
Nigeria’s group contains three teams, while hosts Burkina Faso will lead Group A, which also includes Benin Republic, Ghana and Togo.
The competition will be important beyond the regional title, as it will determine which teams move closer to qualification for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
The Golden Eaglets have a strong record at youth level. Nigeria have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup five times, more than any other country.
However, their immediate task will be to navigate Group B successfully before thinking about the later stages.
Côte d’Ivoire and Niger will provide Nigeria’s first major tests in Burkina Faso. The Golden Eaglets will need to perform well in their group matches if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the 2027 continental tournament alive.
