Kelechi Iheanacho is attracting interest from Turkey after becoming a free agent, with Bursaspor among the clubs hoping to sign the Super Eagles striker ahead of the new season, Footynaija reports.
The 29-year-old is looking for a new team after Scottish champions Celtic decided not to extend his contract. According to reports from Turkey, Bursaspor have already opened discussions as they search for an experienced striker to strengthen their squad following promotion to the TFF 1. Lig.
Club president Enes Çelik has said the club is carefully studying its attacking options and will make a final decision after the team’s pre-season camp. While talks with Iheanacho have started, no deal has been agreed yet.
The Nigerian forward is not short of choices. Brazilian side Vasco da Gama and other clubs across Europe are also believed to be monitoring his situation, giving him several options before he decides where to continue his career.
Although injuries limited his game time at Celtic, Iheanacho still impressed when available. He scored seven goals in 13 appearances across all competitions, including five in the Scottish Premiership. He also scored in the UEFA Europa League and the Scottish Cup, finishing the season with important goals that helped Celtic win both domestic trophies.
The former Manchester City, Leicester City and Sevilla striker has scored 15 goals for Nigeria at senior level and is currently training in the country while considering his future. With fellow Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and Anthony Nwakaeme enjoying success in Turkey, the Super Lig could become an attractive destination if Iheanacho decides Bursaspor is the right next step.
