Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was unable to find the back of the net as Trabzonspor succumbed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Genclebirligi at Papara Park on Sunday, Footynaija.com reports.
Onuachu went into the game seeking to finish on a positive note, having endured a barren streak where he failed to register a single goal in six consecutive matches leading up to yesterday’s encounter.
However, it was the visitors that stole the show courtesy of the likes of Adama Traore, who broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time before Franco Tongya and Metehan Mimaroglu added second half strikes to complete a comprehensive victory.
Speaking after the game, Genclebirligi goalkeeper Ricardo Velho had kind words for Onuachu, admitting that his side were fully aware of the Nigeria international’s capabilities and prepared accordingly.

“Onuachu is a truly incredible player, and we knew before the match that he was trying to become the top scorer. We also knew he would try to score,” Velho said, as quoted by Gunebakis.
Onuachu’s failure to find the net on Sunday extended his drought in front of goal to seven straight games. Despite his poor form to end the season, the former Southampton man can still take pride in returns for the campaign after racking up 22 Super Lig goals.
That tally makes him one of the two top scorers for the 25/26 Super Lig campaign with the other being Eldor Shomurodov, who netted against Gaziantep on Saturday to match Onuachu’s tally and earn himself widespread recognition.
While the Super Lig is wrapped up, Onuachu and Trabzonspor still have a shot at silverware this season as they face Kocaelispor in the final of the Turkish Cup on May 22.
