Real Betis are considering a summer move for Christantus Uche as the Spanish side look to bring the Nigerian midfielder back to La Liga following his difficult spell in England, Footynaija reports.

According to reports in Spain, Betis are prepared to offer around €15 million for the 22-year-old, who is expected to return to Getafe CF after Crystal Palace decided against making his loan move permanent.

The proposed transfer could solve several problems at once. Getafe are under pressure to balance their finances because of La Liga regulations, while Uche is searching for a fresh start after an underwhelming campaign in the Premier League.

Only a year ago, the midfielder was regarded as one of the breakout stars in Spain. Signed from third-tier club AD Ceuta, Uche quickly established himself under coach José Bordalás and became a key figure in Getafe’s fight against relegation.

Palace were supposed to pay £17.3M if Uche had started 10 Premier League games, but all his 14 league games for the club came from the bench.

He scored on his league debut against Athletic Bilbao and finished the 2024-25 season with four goals and six assists in 33 league appearances. His physical style, pressing ability and versatility allowed him to play in midfield, attack and even as a central striker.

Those performances earned him a first senior call-up to the Nigeria national football team and attracted interest from clubs outside Spain.

However, his move to Palace never truly worked. Under coach Oliver Glasner, Uche struggled to secure regular playing time and made all 14 of his Premier League appearances from the bench. He failed to register a goal or assist in the league and played only 158 minutes in total.

Betis now believe the Nigerian can rediscover the form that made him one of La Liga’s most exciting young players.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini is said to value Uche’s tactical flexibility and energy, especially with the club expected to compete in Europe next season.
