Former Super Eagles assistant coach Fatai Amoo has pointed fingers at Nigeria’s football governing body, the NFF, while lamenting the recent decline of the senior national team, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles are right on course to clinch another Unity Cup trophy after comfortably dispatching Zimbabwe in the opening semi-final a few days back to book a place in the final against Jamaica.
However, this latest achievement is hardly any consolation for the heartbreak of failing to qualify for back-to-back FIFA World Cup tournaments and failing to win the Africa Cup of Nations since their last triumph in the 2013 edition.
Reacting to the country’s decline, Amoo, who previously worked with Nigeria’s U17, U20, U23 and senior national teams, did not hold back in his criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation.

“I think our football is retrogressing in terms of players and results,” Amoo said in a recent interview with Brila.
“For me, I have tried my best. You do your best and leave the rest. Nobody can be champion forever.
“From my understanding, the reason why we aren’t doing well is that we have left so many things undone, and we aren’t trying to do it right — especially those that are taking charge of football in Nigeria today.
“And of course, it’s the Nigeria Football Federation, isn’t it? I think if we can go back and look at what and what we have not done well, and try to correct them, I think we will bounce back.”

Amoo’s comments add to the growing criticism directed at the NFF by several prominent Nigerian football figures. Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh has also repeatedly voiced concerns over the federation’s handling of football administration in the country.
