Turkish Super Lig giants, Besiktas, have provided a concerning update of the fitness status of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, Footynaija.com reports.
Over the weekend, Ndidi had to forcefully exit Besiktas’ clash against Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce in the 86th minute after appearing to be struggling with some sort of injury setback.
That particular encounter ended in a hard-fought 1-0 triumph for Fenerbahce, leaving the Black Eagles unable to close the gap on the Super Lig’s top three teams.
Besiktas have now come out to provide clarity on the Nigerian midfielder’s situation, confirming on Tuesday via an official announcement on the club’s website that he suffered an injury to his hamstring and will spend time on the sidelines.

“Our football player Wilfred Ndidi, who was unable to continue playing in the 85th minute of our A Team’s Trendyol Super League match against Fenerbahçe due to pain in his hamstring, underwent an MRI at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital, which revealed a strain and bleeding in his hamstring muscle (biceps femoris). Wilfred Ndidi’s treatment has been started by our medical team.”
With this latest setback, Ndidi is expected to miss at least two weeks of action as he works his way back to complete recovery.
This rules him out of Besiktas’ upcoming Super Lig encounter against Antalyaspor on Friday and makes him a major doubt for their clash with Samsunspor on April 19.
Ndidi has been one of the mainstays at the heart of the Black Eagles’ midfield this season with 22 Super Lig games and two goals under his belt so far.
The Super Eagles star will now focus on his recovery and look to bounce back in time to help Besiktas achieve their aim of finishing in one of those European football qualification spots.
