Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi has been recognised in Portugal after being named Liga Portugal’s Player of the Week, following a series of impressive displays for FC Porto, Footynaija reports.
The left-back earned the honour after a standout performance in Porto’s 3-1 away victory over Estoril Praia on 12 April 2026. In that game, Sanusi showed exactly why he has become such a trusted figure. He was solid defensively, reading danger well and keeping his shape, while also pushing forward with purpose whenever Porto attacked.
His ability to balance both sides of his role has been key. When Porto break forward, Sanusi is often quick to join the attack, using his pace to stretch play down the flank. Just as importantly, he recovers quickly to protect his defence, giving his team stability in difficult moments.
This latest award reflects more than just one good match. It highlights his strong run of form in recent weeks, especially after returning from injury and international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Since then, the former Santa Clara ace has looked sharp, confident, and physically strong, winning duels and using the ball more effectively.
Sanusi also recently reached a personal milestone, making his 150th appearance for Porto in a Europa League match against Nottingham Forest.
Despite reported interest from Premier League sides earlier this year, he remained in Portugal under coach Francesco Farioli. That decision is now paying off, as he continues to play a key role in Porto’s campaign.
Over time, Sanusi has developed into a reliable and consistent performer. He has contributed both defensively and going forward this season, and his work rate has made him a regular starter.
One of his most memorable moments remains his late title-clinching goal against Benfica in 2022, a strike that cemented his place in the club’s recent history.
