Victor Boniface has broken his silence on social media after one of the most difficult stretches of his career, posting a message that captured exactly how he feels about finally being back, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles striker suffered a serious knee injury in December that required surgery in January, a setback that initially ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
The injury also forced him to miss Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco, one of the more painful consequences of a year that had already tested his patience. It meant he watched from the sidelines as the Super Eagles reached the semi-finals without him.
He returned to parent club Bayer Leverkusen to undergo rehabilitation, spending weeks in the gym and on the training pitch before progressing to sessions with the Leverkusen under-19 squad as evidence of his growing fitness.
Werder Bremen then confirmed his return to complete the final stages of his recovery, with the club expressing hope he could still feature before the season ends.
Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune welcomed him back ahead of schedule but was candid, noting that his current physical condition means he can play fewer minutes at full intensity. Thioune still sees him as a valuable option in Bremen’s relegation fight, with the club sitting four points above the drop zone and seven games remaining.
Boniface had scored 22 goals across 42 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen before his loan move to Bremen, including 14 in their title-winning 2023/24 season.
Back in training and closing in on a return to competitive action, he took to X to say what needed no elaboration.“Can’t wait. It been long.”
