Real Madrid are closely monitoring Nigeria-eligible youngster Honest Ahanor as they assess defensive options ahead of the summer transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.
The highly-rated central defender, currently on the books of Atalanta, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign that has quickly placed him on the radar of Europe’s elite.
Signed from Genoa in a deal worth around €25 million, Ahanor has repaid that investment with a series of composed and mature performances across multiple competitions.

Still only in the early stages of his senior career, the teenager has featured regularly for Atalanta this season, contributing in both domestic and European fixtures while continuing his rapid development following a previous injury setback.
Now, a fresh report by Gianluca di Marzio indicates that Real Madrid scouts have been impressed by his versatility and upward trajectory, with the Spanish giants keeping a close watch on his progress as they plan for the future.
Despite the growing interest, any potential move for Ahanor is unlikely to materialise easily. Atalanta view the defender as a long-term asset and are in no immediate rush to entertain offers, particularly given the significant financial outlay made to secure his services.

Ahanor, who was born in Italy to Nigerian parents only recently became an Italian citizen after applying for citizenship upon turning 18.
He subsequently received a call-up to Italy’s U-21 national team squad by head coach Silvio Baldini during the March international break but remains eligible to represent both Italy and Nigeria at senior international level.
At the moment, Real Madrid are only just keeping tabs on the youngster’s situation in Bergamo, but with his stocks rising rapidly, the coming months could prove decisive in determining whether their interest evolves into something more concrete in the summer.
