The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Persian Lions of Iran in an international friendly clash in Antalya, Turkey, Footynaija.com reports.
Moses Simon and Akor Adams got themselves on the scoresheet either side of the halftime whistle to put Eric Chelle’s charge in firm control before Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Iran after the hour mark to set up a tense finish to the game..
While the result was a positive one for the Super Eagles, the performance itself offered plenty to unpack as Chelle continues to stamp his signature on the team . Here are four key takeaways from the match.
4. First timers make international debut

First time members of the Super Eagles squad Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu both made their international debuts in the second half after replacing starters Semi Ajayi and Igoh Ogbu. The debuting duo looked composed on the ball, dominant in the air and well organised despite the limited time to settle into the game.
3. A game of two halves

Nigeria largely controlled proceedings in the first half, showing great hunger and desire going forward. However, the second half told a slightly different story, particularly after head coach Chelle wrung in a number of substitutions.
The Super Eagles’ grip on the game began to loosen, allowing Iran to grow in confidence and eventually find a way back into the contest through Taremi’s 67th minute strike. That second half display betrayed issues Chelle will likely look to address moving forward, particularly in terms of game management.
2. Eric Chelle continues impressive run

The result shows the steady progress being made under head coach Eric Chelle. With just one defeat in normal time since taking charge, the Franco-Malian has managed to instill a sense of organisation and resilience within the squad. Chelle’s record in charge of the Super Eagles now stands at fourteen wins, five draws and one defeat after twenty games.
1. Nigeria extend unbeaten run against Iran

Nigeria’s dominance in this fixture remains intact, with the Super Eagles now unbeaten in three meetings against Iran. This victory also marked the first time Nigeria have scored more than once against the Asian side.
