Ademola Lookman has turned his attention to the showdown with Barcelona after helping Atlético Madrid edge past Tottenham Hotspur and secure a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Footynaija reports.
Despite a 3-2 defeat in north London on Wednesday, Diego Simeone’s side advanced on aggregate, surviving a stern test against an energetic Tottenham team. The hosts struck first through Randal Kolo Muani, but Atlético responded swiftly, with Julián Álvarez finishing emphatically after being set up by Lookman.
The Nigerian forward, who has made an immediate impact since his winter switch, acknowledged the challenge posed by Spurs but Atlético’s satisfaction at progressing.
“I was very happy to be into the next round. Every game is hard, everyone knows this competition and the quality of the teams, so we are happy to have played today,” he told UEFA TV.

Reflecting on the tie, Lookman pointed to the importance of their dominant first-leg display. “In the last leg, obviously we played very well at home. We scored five goals and that has taken us through. There are positives to take from tonight’s performance, so it’s important going into the next round.”
Atlético’s resilience proved decisive after falling behind on the night. “They scored a goal and it is easy to collapse but with the mentality that we have is to stay calm, to stay in the game and to get opportunities and we did,” he added.
For Lookman, the return to London carried personal meaning. “Of course, it’s nice to be back in London. I call it home so it’s nice to be back here. We are through to the next round, that’s the most important.”
