FC Augsburg manager Manuel Baum has shed some light on the reason why young Nigerian forward Uchenna Ogundu is yet to make his debut for the Bundesliga outfit, Footynaija.com reports.

Ogundu swapped Turkish Super Lig side Alanyaspor for FC Augsburg in the winter transfer window after registering two goals and an assist in 11 league starts during the first half of the season.

However, the 19-year-old is yet to feature in a matchday squad for Die Fuggerstadter despite the 11th placed Bundesliga side having already played a couple of games since his arrival.

Addressing Ogundu’s current lack of involvement, Augsburg coach Baum revealed that the new recruit is still adjusting to his new environment and the club is waiting for the right moment to make use of his talents.

“He’s already had a few German lessons, greets me with ‘Servus’ and is very well integrated,” the 46-year-old said in quotes revealed by FC Augsburg’s official website.

“You can see his strength and his pace in training. But we have to wait for the right moments to use young players like him.”

Augsburg face Wolfsburg next in the German Bundesliga but it remains uncertain whether Baum will hand Ogundu his first appearance on Die Fuggerstadter’s matchday squad.

Who is Uchenna Ogundu?

Ogundu began his youth career with Nigerian side Diamond Football Academy. Following his stint there, he joined the youth academy of Turkish side Şanlıurfaspor during the summer of 2024.

He was promoted to Şanlıurfaspor’s senior team in 2025, where he made nineteen league appearances and scored six goals before signing for Super Lig side Alanyaspor ahead of the 25/26 season.

On 2 February 2026, less than seven months after joining Alanyaspor, Ogundu signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Augsburg, committing his long-term future to the Bundesliga outfit.
