Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq believes La Liga will come to reckon with the star that Ademola Lookman is after the former Atalanta forward joined Atletico Madrid during the winter transfer window, Footynaiaja.com reports.
Lookman has already hit the ground running at his new club, courtesy of a starring performance in Los Colchoneros’ Copa del Rey thrashing of Real Betis on Thursday where he contributed a goal and an assist.
The Nigeria international is in contention to make his La Liga debut on Sunday when Atletico Madrid welcome Betis to the Wanda Metropolitano for their MD23 encounter of the ongoing Spanish top flight season.
Speaking about his compatriot in a recent interview, Sadiq expressed delight at Lookman’s arrival in Spain and backed the former African Player of the Year to shine in the red and white stripes of Atletico Madrid.

“I’m glad to see him coming here to La Liga because probably this is the best league in the world and you know the best league needs the best players,” the towering forward said in an interview with Sporty TV.
“Ademola Lookman is one of the best players right now and, you know, it’s time for La Liga to know who he is and the world also will confirm who he is and I will wish him all the best and I will see him soon.”
Sadiq and Lookman, both Super Eagles stars, may cross paths as rivals at some point in La Liga when Valencia and Atletico Madrid face off for the second time this season. But that encounter, which will go down at the Estadio de Mestalla does not come until later in May.
While Lookman continues to settle in nicely at Atletico, Sadiq, who also completed a move from Real Sociedad to Valencia in the winter transfer window will be eager to establish himself as a key player at the Estadio de Mestalla.
