Paul Onuachu’s scoring run continued on Saturday as the Trabzonspor striker scored twice in a 3-0 away win over Samsunspor, a result that moved him clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig goals chart, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles star opened the scoring in the first half at the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayıs Stadium before adding a second late on, taking his league total for the season to 15 goals.
The win extended Trabzonspor’s push in the upper half of the table and confirmed the 31-year-old as the division’s outright leading scorer at this stage of the campaign.
The goals followed a familiar pattern for the former Genk forward. His first came from inside the penalty area after Trabzonspor sustained pressure in the final third, while the second came in the closing stages as the visitors added then another to secure the points.
The brace settled the contest long before the final whistle and showed the striker’s central role in Faith Tekke’s attacking setup.
Onuachu’s latest display capped another productive week for the tall centre forward, who has now scored in many league matches across the season. His 15 goals have come across just over half a campaign, placing him ahead of several established forwards in Turkey’s top flight, including fellow Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
This run of form follows his permanent return to Trabzonspor last summer, when the Black Sea club moved to secure him after an earlier loan spell. The deal brought him back to a league where he had already shown his worth, following a difficult spell in England with Southampton.
Since rejoining the Turkish side on a full-time basis, he has been used consistently as the focal point in attack, with the team shaping its forward play around his presence in the box.
