Ademola Lookman was full of smiles after helping Atlético Madrid to a famous 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian forward scored once and created another goal in a night that fans at the Metropolitano Stadium will not forget in a hurry. It was one of Atlético’s biggest wins over Barcelona in nearly four decades, putting them in a very strong position ahead of the return match.
The hosts started brightly and were rewarded early when Barcelona defender Eric García turned the ball into his own net. The goal lifted the crowd and gave Atlético even more belief.

Soon after, Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead with a calm finish. Lookman then made it 3-0 before the break, arriving perfectly to fire home first time. Moments later, he showed great awareness to set up Julián Álvarez, who completed a stunning first half.
After the match, Ademola Lookman praised his teammates and the fans for the special atmosphere inside the stadium.
“I’m very, very happy. Of course, scoring is good, but I think the team played really well tonight. In the box we were very professional, and today we showed a great level of teamwork,” Lookman said to Sporty TV.

“We got that energy from our fans tonight, they were amazing, so we are glad.”
He also explained how important it is for him to always be ready in front of goal.
“You always want to score as an attacker, always looking to get into dangerous positions, so I just try to be in the right place at the right time.”
Despite the big win, Lookman made it clear that Atlético must not relax.
“Of course, it’s a big victory. But we have a few more games coming up before we play away, so we need to stay with the same mindset and focus on those matches, which will take us to the other semi final. We are excited about the days to come,” he said.
Since arriving from Atalanta in January, Lookman has quickly become a key player, already contributing goals and assists. Barcelona will now hope for a miracle when both sides meet again in the second leg.
