Two of Spain’s biggest clubs Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are preparing to battle for the signature of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, footynaija.com reports.

Barcelona have been tracking the Super Eagles vice-captain as they search for a successor to Robert Lewandowski, whose influence remains strong but whose career is nearing its final chapters.

Inside the Camp Nou hierarchy, Osimhen is admired for his explosive pace, aerial dominance and instinctive finishing, qualities they believe could anchor their attack for the next decade.

However, the Catalans now face serious competition.

Galatasaray has reportedly set a €80 million asking price for striker Victor Osimhen following intensified interest from Barcelona as of February 2026.

Atlético Madrid have emerged as strong contenders, with Diego Simeone eager to make Osimhen the centrepiece of his next attacking rebuild. The Argentine coach is keen to inject more power and directness into his frontline and views the 27-year-old as the perfect leader of a refreshed squad.

Atlético’s interest has been fuelled further by the recent arrival of Ademola Lookman, Osimhen’s Nigeria teammate, whose partnership with the striker lit up the Africa Cup of Nations. Club officials are reportedly keen to recreate that chemistry in La Liga.

To fund a deal of such magnitude, Atlético are open to selling Alexander Sørloth this summer, a move that could free up a significant portion of the money required for what would be a club-record transfer.

Galatasaray, though, hold a strong hand. The Turkish champions tied Osimhen down to a long-term contract after making his move permanent last year and are believed to have placed an €80 million valuation on their star man.

The numbers explain the growing frenzy. Osimhen struck 37 goals and added eight assists last season and has already scored 15 times in 21 matches this campaign across league and European competitions.

Both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have their work cut out, though, as Chelsea, PSG, Manchester United and Juventus have all tried to sign Osimhen without success in the past.
