Brøndby IF have shed light on their decision to sign Emmanuel Dennis, with head coach Steve Cooper stating the reasons the Danish side moved for the Nigeria international following his arrival in Copenhagen, Footynaija.com reports.
The Superliga outfit confirmed the recent signing of the 28-year-old he spent weeks training with the first team. Dennis joined as a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest last summer and has signed a deal running until June 2028.
Speaking after the move, Cooper explained that the former Watford attacker was targeted to strengthen competition across the attacking line, as Brøndby look to push standards within the squad during the second half of the season.
The Welsh coach, who previously worked with Dennis during their time together at the City Ground, pointed to the forward’s positional range as a major factor in the decision.

“He can play on the wing and right up front at the same level, so he is flexible,” Coopee said, per Pulse Sports.
Dennis trained with the Danish side after months without competitive football, following his release by Forest at the end of the 2024 to 2025 campaign. Brøndby’s coaching staff monitored his physical condition and output during sessions at the club’s training base before recommending a contract.
Cooper also said that the move was not only about one player but part of a wider plan to increase internal competition.
“But we need one or two more in attack because we want to be a team where all players are playing for a place in the starting eleven in the following game, and therefore we need more breadth in the squad,” he added.
The former Swansea City boss knows the Nigerian international well, having handed him a run of games during Forest’s return to the Premier League. Dennis made at least 19 appearances under Cooper during the 2022-2023 season.
Brøndby are currently pushing for a strong finish in the domestic campaign and see the arrival of the ex-Club Brugge man as a timely boost. Dennis is expected to complete final registration formalities before becoming available for selection. He will wear the number 17 shirt at the club.
