Fisayo Dele Bashiru’s long term future at Lazio is becoming uncertain, with Championship side West Bromwich Albion stepping up their interest in the Nigerian midfielder ahead of the closing stages of the January transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.
The Serie A club have included the 24-year-old in their matchday squad for the league fixture against Lecce, a decision that comes after his return from the Africa Cup of Nations and a spell on the sidelines through injury. While that recall points to renewed availability, it has not removed doubts surrounding his standing under coach Maurizio Sarri.
Lazio have struggled to integrate Dele Bashiru into Sarri’s team this season. The former Manchester City academy player spent long stretches outside the Serie A squad list, with the coaching staff favouring those more aligned with Sarri’s emphasis on positional control and short passing.
In recent weeks, though, the team’s position appears to have changed. Injuries in the squad and his return from international duty have prompted the club to restore him to the registered list, giving him a chance to feature again.

Even so, sources close to the situation suggest the club remain open to proposals, particularly if an offer falls within their wider plans to reduce the squad and manage wages.
English second-tier side West Brom have reportedly emerged as the most concrete suitor. The Championship side are pushing for reinforcements as they chase an improved second half of the season, and Dele Bashiru is viewed as a perfect player for that purpose.
The Baggies have followed his progress closely, with his familiarity with English football seen as a plus after spells at Sheffield Wednesday and in Turkey before his move to Italy.
Interest has not been limited to the Hawthorns. Other clubs in England and abroad have also asked preliminary questions, though West Brom are the side most clearly linked at this stage. Lazio are understood to be assessing whether a permanent move or a temporary deal would better suit their financial objectives.
