Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has said winning AFCON gold with Nigeria is his New Year resolution, Footynaija.com reports.
Speaking to journalists during Super Eagles training ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 Round of 16 clash, the Atalanta forward said his New Year’s resolution is to win the tournament with the Super Eagles.
Nigeria have moved beyond the group stage after winning all three matches against Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda to secure a place in the knockout rounds. Lookman played an important role in that run, extending a strong AFCON narrative that began two years earlier.

As revealed in a report by TheCable, when asked about his goals for the year, the 27-year-old said he hopes “to bring gold back home”.
At AFCON 2023, Lookman was one of Nigeria’s standout stars, stepping up with three goals on the road to the final. His influence grew with every round, and those big-game performances lit up his profile across Africa and pushed his rise for both club and country.
In AFCON 2025, he has picked up right where he left off. He scored twice and added assists in the group stage, racking up four goal contributions. But it’s not just the numbers; his work rate and smart decisions have made him one of Nigeria’s most reliable threats so far.
That momentum comes off the back of a big year. In 2024, Lookman was named CAF African Footballer of the Year, becoming one of the few Nigerians to win it in recent times. The award followed a strong run with Atalanta in Europe and solid performances for the Super Eagles, raising expectations going into AFCON 2025.
