The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco is here, and Nigeria’s Super Eagles will arrive with a 28-man squad shaped by new ideas and fresh faces under coach Eric Chelle, Footynaija.com reports.

While the squad features a mix of seasoned pros and exciting newcomers, the spotlight this time is on the quiet risers and those whose impact is building steadily rather than making headlines.

Super Eagles duo Raphael Onyedika and Ryan Alebiosu have been named in a recent AFCON scouting list, revealed by The Athletic. The selection features young, emerging talents across Africa who are mostly under 25 and flying under the radar outside Europe’s biggest clubs but ready to make a serious impact on the tournament stage.

Given their recent form and how well they fit into the current team plans, it’s no surprise they made the cut. Both players have rightly earned their spots in Eric Chelle’s squad released earlier this month, bringing the energy and skills Nigeria needs for AFCON 2025.

Raphael Onyedika

At 24, Raphael Onyedika is arguably one of Nigeria’s most dependable midfielders heading into AFCON. The Club Brugge player isn’t flashy, but his discipline, smart positioning, and steady presence make him crucial. He shields the defense and keeps the team flowing smoothly from back to front.

His inclusion on the scouting list aligns with his club form in Belgium, where he continues to play regularly at a competitive European level. Going into Morocco, he is expected to be part of the midfield rotation, particularly in matches where Nigeria must manage pressure and maintain structure.

Ryan Alebiosu

Ryan Alebiosu’s story is different, but no less relevant. The Blackburn Rovers full back only recently completed his international switch to Nigeria and AFCON 2025 will be his first major tournament at senior level. His selection by Chelle confirmed that the technical crew see him as more than a future option.

Alebiosu offers pace, athleticism, and the ability to operate as a modern wide defender. Comfortable pushing forward and disciplined enough to recover defensively, he gives Nigeria an alternative profile in the full back positions. His performances in the English Championship have shown maturity beyond his years, which likely influenced both his national team call up and his appearance on the scouting list.
