Head coach of Tanzania’s national team, Miguel Gamondi, has revealed that the Taifa Stars are excited to be representing their country at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
The Taifa Stars of Tanzania are not a household name when it comes to the Africa Cup of Nations. In fact, since the inception of the tournament back in 1957, this year’s edition will be their only fourth time partaking in the competition.
Tanzania have played a total of nine matches at the AFCON finals but still await their first ever win in the tournament with a dismal record of six defeats and three draws, leaving so much more to be desired.
Despite this poor history, the Taifa Stars’ Argentine head coach Gamondi maintains that there’s a great deal of excitement within his squad as they prepare to launch their campaign against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“Our preparation is good,” Gamondi said. “The condition here is excellent. We try to work with the maximum to prepare the team in the best way possible.
“The spirit in the camp is very good, we are very happy and excited to represent Tanzania in this Africa Cup of Nations.”

With their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations only a couple of days away, Gamondi and Tanzania will be relishing the opportunity to snag their first ever win of the competition against the Super Eagles.
That said, getting one over Nigeria will by no means, be an easy task for the Taifa Stars. Asides the fact that the Super Eagles are considered to be one of the top contenders in the tournament, Tanzania have never managed to secure victory against their West African counterparts.
