Former Parma and Senegal full-back Ferdinand Coly has named the Super Eagles of Nigeria alongside nine other teams capable of going all the way at this year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com reports.
The tournament is billed to kick off in a matter of days and excitement is steadily building as fans of African football prepare themselves for what could be one of the most sternly contested editions in recent history.
While Coly believes Morocco’s status as host nation and the highest ranked African team in the competition gives them an edge, he admitted that a number of other nations, including Nigeria, have what it takes to win the tournament.

“It is very difficult to determine the winner in advance,” the former Senegal international said in quotes revealed by Filgoal.
“Morocco has the home advantage and is the first African team in the FIFA rankings, so it is the first candidate according to logic, but there are several other nominated teams such as Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia.
“These are among the candidates, along with the Democratic Republic of Congo, which qualified for the World Cup, Ivory Coast, the defending champion, Nigeria, and Cameroon, and there may be surprises such as Cape Verde.
“There are many competitors. This tournament has eight or ten teams capable of winning, which raises the level of competition and the expectations of the fans for this important edition.”

The Super Eagles, who finished as runners-up behind Ivory Coast in the last edition of the AFCON will be looking to go one step further this time around.
They’ll be desperate to make up for the recent disappointment of missing out on a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by clinching their first Africa Cup of Nations title since 2013.
