Head coach of the Nigeria national team, Eric Chelle, dismissed talks of the Super Eagles’ World Cup disappointment, insisting his side is fully focused on the Africa Cup of Nations ahead of their opening match against Tanzania, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles are still shaking off the heartbreak of failing to qualify for next summer’s Mundial. But they must now find a way to switch on and go all out for their fourth AFCON title in Morocco.
For head coach Chelle, this won’t be a problem as the Franco-Malian insists that the team have put that disappointment firmly behind them and they’re fully focused on having a great tournament in Northern Africa.

“We are here and we have a game tomorrow (today) and also we have a tournament so we don’t have the time to think about what has happened before,” Chelle said in his pre-match press conference.
“This is not the moment to talk about the World Cup qualifiers, for now the most important thing is this tournament. Our first game is a big game and the first game is very important and for sure we want to win this game.”
The tournament kicked off on Sunday, December 21 with hosts Morocco as well as top contenders Egypt and South Africa already registering early intent by winning their respective opening matches.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will kickstart their own campaign later today against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania at the Fes Sporting Complex and the three-time African champions will be eager to set the tone in Group C with a winning start.
