Nigeria’s Super Eagles have received their official squad numbers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, footynaija.com reports.
CAF confirmed the numbers ahead of Nigeria’s Group C opener against Tanzania on December 23, as head coach Eric Chelle prepares for his first major tournament with the three-time champions.
The Super Eagles are in Morocco with a 28-man squad, including three goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and nine attackers. Francis Uzoho retains the number one shirt, although Stanley Nwabali, wearing 23, is expected to start as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi continues with number four, while Semi Ajayi (6) and Frank Onyeka (8) maintain their familiar numbers. Igho Ogbu has been entrusted with the symbolic number five, previously worn by William Troost-Ekong, who retired from international football last month.
Up front, Victor Osimhen unsurprisingly takes number nine, a shirt steeped in Super Eagles history, having been previously won by Rashidi Yekini and Odion Ighalo. The iconic number seven has been claimed by the 2024 Africa Footballer of the Year winner, Ademola Lookman.
Despite being Austin Okocha’s nephew, Alex Iwobi again declines the number ten, sticking with 17, leaving the playmaker’s shirt to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Nigeria will also face Tunisia and Uganda in the group stage as they bid for a fourth AFCON title.
